Well, Ian won something for us. Caledonia has been accepted for the 10×10 Inspired Music Program as part of the 27th Atlantic Film Festival. We’re gonna make a music video. awsome!

what an awsome tour!

We played some great shows, got to see old friends (special appearances from Nathan, Gen & Robin), make new ones (thanks to Cheesey Luigi’s late night pizza session in Wakefield, PQ; it’s AWSOME pizza), and get in some serious boating time on the Ottawa River.

A huge thank-you to Kelsey Thompson & Sharky for giving us lodging and loaning us gear. Gates learned how to roll his kayak and he ran the Main Channel of the Ottawa without swimming (all in one day!). Ian mastered the fine art of up-stream ferries, while Rebo, Mandy & I surfed on Garburator. Dave N. dropped multiple F-bombs throughout the weekend. Ben M. was inebriated much of the time.

I really don’t think touring gets any better. Did i mention we wrote a bunch of new songs? Come check out our new tunes on:

Caledonia’s getting reved up for our summer tour, but 1st; we simply must rip it up at The Seahorse on Friday June 15th.

We’ll be playing with Gloryhound & The Skyhawks.

Doors at 10pm, show starts at 10:30pm. Cover is $8.

As usual, bring your dancing shoes! and get ready for some more new tunes….

wow.
I’ve never played at such an insane show. Last weekend we were at the Wolrd Freestyle Kayak Championships on the Ottawa River.

It was great, we finally got to combine our love of boating with music. We got to go kayaking each day, and we played to about 20 people…until the bar inside ther lodge closed. Then 250 people filled the outdoor auditorium at Wilderness Tours, and boy do kayakers know how to rip it up! At one point, there were 50 people jumping around on stage.

Many thanks to Rush Sturges for grabbing the mic and throwing down some rhymes with Reble and myself providing the rythm section - this gave Ian and Gates enough time to clear their gear off the stage before the crowd smashed it. I really enjoyed Russ’ stage show. He’s awsome!

Thanks to Dillan (one of the Beastie Boys from BC, and my Kiwi pal) for helping us get the drums and bass rig off the stage before the mob made off with our gear. They were not pleased that we stopped playing, but 3.5hrs of music was enough; and Gates’ voice was shot.

I firmly believe that the French team is crazy, they trashed all of our merchandise posters.

Overall, we had a great time. The crowd was super intense, but we knew it was all in good fun. It was great to see all my pals from Uganda too. Watch out for Ed Smith from the UK - you’ll be hearing about him in the future. He missed the top 5 by .33 of a point.

It’s great to be back in Halifax. We arrived back home just in time for one last snowstorm. In spite of the brief cold it’s great to be home.

Reble’s off to his homeland teaching white-water canoeing for most of the summer. We wish him well, but we won’t really be long without him. We’ll be touring a lot this summer, starting with Cafe Dekcuf (Ottawa) on Thursday May 3rd, and continuing with our show at the World Freestyle Kayak Championships on the Ottawa river, at Wilderness Tours - Saturday May 4th.

Caledonia’s Canoe/Kayak Video Contest

We were privileged to play a benefit show for the Friends of the Kipawa River on saturday night in Toronto. It was a fun night of music and white-water kayak videos, where we announced the start of Caledonia’s paddling video contest.

The contest runs until August 30th, 2007. Basically, we’re trying to mix our love of canoeing and kayaking with music. Also, we need kick-ass videos for our songs

So here’s how it works:
We’ll be accepting submissions until the end of August. If we come across a really good video before then, we’ll post it on our website for all to enjoy. There will be prizes for the best videos. AND, the best videos will be part of our National Tour in Spetember ‘07, when we will showcase your creations across the country.

The videos can be white-water, kayak surfing, canoeing, sea-kayaking; whatever you desire. Be creative! They can be arty and weird, humourous, or everyone’s favorite: kayak porn.
We’ll post more details about prizes etc in the coming weeks.

Word on the street is, there’s a new Caledonia group on FaceBook.
If you haven’t heard of this yet, don’t worry - you will. It’ll start with emails from people you rarely contact inviting you to ‘join’. To be honest, i find the whole thing a little overwhelming, but that’s just me. (Why do we need another myspace?)
